On March 21, 2009, Lovelle Mixon shot four Oakland, California police officers, killing Sgt. Mark Dunakin, Sgt. Ervin Romans, and Sgt. Daniel Sakai, and critically wounding officer John Hege. After opening fire through a closed closet door, Mixon was killed by SWAT team return fire. Mixon had been serving prison time on a conviction of assault with a deadly weapon, but the parole board had decided that it was a good idea to let him out of prison early before his sentence was finished. No word has been issued on whether or not the people who voted for Mixon's parole will be charged as accessories to these three murders.
